Rock in Okinawa is on the second floor of Takara Records, a music store selling instruments (including Okinawan instruments like the Sanshin), records, and DJ equipment. It was established with aims to recreate the glory of Koza’s Okinawan rock scene in the heart of Naha, and naturally everything about the place is rock. It believes rock & roll is all about the overwhelming, blasting sound, and it makes sure its guests know of it by playing music that can be felt from head to toe. It isn’t all about noise, however, as volume and sound quality are scrupulously controlled for maximum comfort. It also hosts seminars that feature major artists like Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman, co-sponsored by instrument manufacturers.
