Maryudu Falls

Maryudu Falls

Area

This waterfall is upriver on the Urauchi River in central Iriomote Island. It is Okinawa’s highest volume waterfall. Mariyudo means “round sediment,” and there is a sediment pool at the base of the falls. Sightseeing boats go 8 kilometers upriver to a dock, where there is a rock called Gunkan-iwa Rock. From here, a 30-minute or slightly more walk brings you to an observation platform. The platform gives a view of the falls, about 20 meters wide and with a 16-meter drop in three stages. Walking a little more than 10 minutes brings you to the falls itself.
