Situated between Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands, Kohama has a circumference of 13 kilometers. Manta rays range along the Yonaha channel between Kohama and Iriomote. This island is blessed with abundant farmland and groundwater, and the year is lively with a bountiful harvest and other farming festivals. A small peak 99 meters high, called “Ufudaki”, is the island’s highest point and its symbol. The Yaeyama folk song “Kohama Song” says Kohama Island is a happy island.
