Gesashi Bay’s Mangrove Forest

Gesashi Bay’s Mangrove Forest

Area

In the tropics and subtropics, mangroves are plants that rise in areas near estuaries, where ocean and fresh water mix. In the mangrove forest of Gesashi River, Okinawa Island’s largest mangrove zone, three types of different mangroves can be observed. The forest is also a treasure house where many small living creatures such as Shiomaneki (fidder crab) and mud crabs can be observed.
